"Broken" experimentation

Broken
I have been thinking about how I am going to quilt words in the border of this quilt with red thread.  My initial idea was to quilt around letters using the phrase "We are broken." Then to make the letter stand out I would quilt the rest of the border around the letters with lines.  Then I thought about doing that and then using some subtle red paint and paint the letters after the quilting was done.

See these two ideas below.

Of these 2 ideas I am leaning toward the first one. Another idea I have not tried out yet is to just fill the borders with the words "We are broken" in script. A trial of that will have to wait till after the holidays.

What do you think?

Have a good holiday.
Thanks for reading.

  1. I agree with you on the lettering -- I prefer the first version. I like the idea of a "hidden" message in the quilting. :-)

  2. Definitely the first one. Hum maybe I can incorporate a word or two in my current quilt. Nah, probably wouldn't fit.

  3. I like the first option for your beautiful quilt. The red and black is really dramatic together.
