House quilt finished

I finally decided after a lot of debate to rip out the hand quilting and machine quilt my house quilt. Hand quilting was not as easy to rip out as I thought it would be. Plus it killed me to rip it out because I made such nice stitches! I estimate that I had about 1/5 of the quilt done, but the hand quilting was "killing" me. My entire body hurt while doing it. The quilt is about 70 by 70. I decided I was never going to finish the hand quilting.  I finished machine quilting it before Christmas and got the binding finished last week. It was washed yesterday. Now I have to sew on some sleeves for hanging.

Our cat Chowder always had to check out newly finished quilts!

  1. I like the way the houses merge with each other. Nice finish. Nice cat inspector.

  2. I am sad too about the hand quilting (and I know about how hard it can be to remove from experience - not because I decided to machine quilt instead but because I didn't like the way a certain line or area motif looked) but I get it. That's a pretty large quilt to hand quilt and if one is not physically up to the task there's no reason to martyr oneself. :-)

The machine quilting looks very nice. I like the way you gently "wave" those parallel lines. Excellent! Does this mean you've made progress adapting to the new machine? Your houses should look very nice hanging on your wall instead of stuffed in a bag - vbg

  4. Beautiful quilt! I hear you about the hand quilting. I used to be a very good hand quilter and quilted a lot of quilts that way. But after my elbow surgery that all fell by the wayside. I have been machine quilting for years.
