They do make the oil wells more mechanical looking. We used to see these in California and called them grasshoppers. Folks even had them in their yards which in most of California are small. Of course you generally don't get mineral rights when you buy a house in Ca. Sure wish my grandpa could have afforded to buy Long Beach at $10 an acre when they moved to LA in the '20's. Those make the rigs look like large mechanical insects...which (for me) enhances the impression that they are the "bad guys" in this scenario.
