My exhibit at the local art museum was kinda a bust so now I have to figure what I have to do to move on.
First…I have to finish the Point of no Return Halloween quilt. I just need sleeves and a label.
Second…I have to get back to the Halloween block of the month I was working on. I’m a few blocks behind.
Third…I have to make my sister a gift for her birthday in mid September.
Fourth…I have to make the yearly ornament for my daughter.
Fifth…I have to figure out what path my art quilting will take. This might be the hardest one of these items. It will require some soul searching.
Am I done making quilts with buildings? Do I want to go back to making mini quilts. I did that for a while and enjoyed it. I have several blog posts about it. https://chrissquiltinguniverse.blogspot.com/search?q=Mini
I have a lot of photos that I have saved for inspiration. Maybe I can pick one of them. At least I have a few projects to do before I have to make any decisions.
Or do I want to try something new? Not sure what that is.

I’m sorry you are having a hard time with the lack of enthusiasm for your work on display at the museum. It may take awhile to come to the realization that it’s not your fault. Your work is amazing and incredibly well done! However, quilts of all types had a good run back in the 80-90’s, especially in the larger communities. Alas, fabric/fiber has never been a big seller for artists.
ReplyDeleteBut what I notice above is all the “have-to” items you listed. Perhaps it’s time to let go of “obligations” and decide to do something that you’ve thought about but put off because of all the expectations you have put on yourself?
Have you thought of what you used to love doing but set aside once quilting captured your attention? Or what different sort of quilting you’ve considered trying, but put aside?
What outside of art have you considered for doing “just for fun?”
It may be a slow journey to the acceptance of not achieving what you had hoped for with your amazing quilts. Many have been there… and we get over it in time. And we still create in new ways that bring us joy!
Chris, I think small quilts for a while. You are an artist, so I believe something will inspire you if you continue to “do the work”. Please don’t be turned off by what you perceive as a lack of interest. You do your art for you!
