Idaho Beauty wondered what this composition would look like reversed. It’s easy to flip an image. I’m so used to seeing the face on the right so putting it on the left seems strange.
I did try out another idea, but for now will stick to the original idea.

So should I go left or right? I also forgot that this show is just proposed at this point. I submitted my proposal and that proposal has to be accepted since even the proposals are juried. I guess we’ll see if it’s accepted.

I took a drawing class years ago that as one of the exercises we were to make marks that expressed different emotions. When we shared our marks, they were surprisingly the same. It appears that there is something ingrained in us to express emotions similarly when broken down to basic mark making. Similarly, another exercise had us drawing a person (and I think perhaps some other things) in a square. Mine was on the extreme right, facing left. Apparently that is a sign of aggression or fear as in stay away from me, whereas if I'd reversed that it would have indicated more openness. I had to admit that at that time in my life I WAS feeling insecure and being careful about who I let into my life. That's why as I looked at your original, I kept wanting to put the raven on the other side I think, and flipping the picture made the whole thing seem to make more sense. I also ran into something that said if you center images it indicates a need for balance and control. As a quilter, I wouldn't take as much stock in that one - in traditional quilt design we are sort of trained to center things!
ReplyDeleteYour new rendition is really something - startling and ominous. Being pared down really works along with big tree on left foreground and the scraggly trees on right fading back to give a really interesting perspective.
