Snap, Crackle, Pop—Triple Onomatopoeia

My challenge 12 inch by 12 inch theme for August is onomatopoeia. Since I am currently taking a class at Quilt University from Linda Schmidt called Elements in Fabric: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water, I decided to use what I am learning in that class to make a quilt of a forest fire.

I started by painting the background fabric with setacolor paints in reds, orange, yellow and purple. After that some background trees were drawn in with Fabrico markers.  Some Tinzl fibers were fused together and placed over the background.Then I free hand cut the middle ground trees and canopy. Some sheers including painted dryer sheets and more Angelina were added over the middle ground trees. Then the foreground burned out trees were shaded and added. I quilted it with a variegated King Tut thread by superior.
