Quilt top done!

The house top is too big to hang on my design wall so had to take a photo of it on the floor.

The borders were the exact lengths they should have been from the EQ design of the quilt. I guess that means I was fairly accurate in my cutting and sewing.

This is going to take a while to hand quilt because it is pretty big at 72 in by 72 in.

It is not as big as the queen size double wedding ring that I hand quilted years ago. I think it was almost king size. That was my last major hand quilted piece. This quilt won viewer's choice at a quitl show!  I am looking forward to hand quilting again.

We had a great time at the NYC St Patrick's day parade last Thursday. My husband's bagpipe band was in the parade. The families of the band members marched behind the band down 5th avenue. The weather was perfect and we met up with our daughter and boyfriend at the end of the parade. They came in from Boston for the parade. We were able to hang out with them for a band tailgate at the end of the parade.

Looks like we were having a good time!

Thanks for reading.

Heading to Boston

We are heading to Boston tomorrow to see our daughter and her boyfriend. Boy are we going to have a car full of stuff…food, gifts, quilts. I am giving her 4 quilts. Three to hang on her walls and one to put on her bed. Here are the wall quilts…”Gossip Central,” “Nothing is Ever as it Seems,” and “Time Zones.”

I am also giving her a queen sized double wedding ring quilt that I made years ago (long before art quilting) and never used. She was pretty young when I made it and she always loved it. It is hand quilted and took about 1000 hours from beginning to end. She said she wanted it when she got married. I decided to give it to her now. It is called “Wedding Rings and White Roses.” I wore white roses in my hair when I was married. I remember her saying that the back of the quilt looked like a white on white quilt. I won Viewer’s Choice at a quilt show with this quilt.

I am thrilled that she still loves the quilt.

Thanks for reading. Now I have to pack.

Wedding Rings and White Roses

wedding

I have been meaning to blog about this quilt for a while.  I finished this queen size double wedding ring about 10 years ago.  It is machine pieced and hand quilted.  I think the time invested from beginning to end was around 800 hours which took about 5 years.  This was my last hand quilted quilt!

I picked out fairly pale fabrics because I wanted an antique look. I think most of the fabrics were not bought in quilt stores! In fact they were bought all over the place including Joann’s Fabrics as well as other fabric stores that no longer exist. I had to use poly batting because they did not have batting that large in cotton back then.

I quilted roses in the off white spaces because I wore white roses in my hair when we got married.  I can’t believe how thin I was back then!  I made my own dress.  Cost about $50 back then.

My daughter wants me to give it to her when she gets married.  I told her it depends on who she marries. Actually she is pretty much a slob and that has me more concerned than what boy she might marry.

I remember she used to love the back of it because it looked like a white on white quilt from the back.

I have shown the quilt from the front and the back so you can see all the quilting in it.  I won viewer’s choice for this quilt at a quilt show about 10 years ago.
