OMG it looks amazing!

"Houses of the Holy"

We hung the house quilt yesterday and it is striking on the wall. I love red and white quilts. I am so glad I decided to take out the hand quilting and finish this quilt with machine quilting. It is about 70 in by 70 in so make quite a statement. It seems pretty strange to finally have something on that wall.

My husband suggested the title "Houses of the Holy." I think it is from a Led Zeppelin song.

Below are the lyrics to that song.  Not sure I am sold on the title.

Let me take you to the movies
Can I take you to the show
Let me be yours ever truly
Can I make your garden grow
From the houses of the holy, we can watch the white doves go
From the door comes satan's daughter, and it only goes to show, you know
There's an angel on my shoulder, in my hand a sword of gold
Let me wander in your garden and the seeds of love I'll sow you know
So the world is spinning faster are you dizzy when you're stoned
Let the music be your master will you heed the master's call
Oh Satan and man
Said there ain't no use in crying 'cause it will only, only drive you mad
Does it hurt to hear them lying?

Was this the only world you had? oh oh
So let me take you, take you to the movie
Can I take you, baby, to the show
Why don't you let me be yours ever truly
Can I make your garden grow, you know

Start on the Amsterdam canal houses

This was a quilt that I designed years ago and finally decided to start making it. This image is from working on the sketch in Electric Quilt and trying out fabrics for a nighttime scene.

I decided to stretch the houses a bit more vertically because every time I get the sketch printed the houses look fat and squat instead of tall and thin. Here's the sketch on my design wall.

I checked on the vanishing point to make sure things look good before starting the quilt.

This is what I have so far.....one house!  I did start the next house, but not much done on it so far. One house looks so strange by itself.

Thanks for reading.  I have been missing my dad this week. He gave great hugs. I really miss that.

How's the quilting going? SLOWLY...VERY SLOWLY

I think I forgot how slowly hand quilting goes. I think I have about 2 houses out of 25 done!  I find my vision is not as good as it used to be. Also my wrist hurts a bit after quilting. So both of those are slowing me down. I do like the Dream poly batting though.

I decided to do very simple 1/4 inch outline quilting so that the quilted cats would not get lost. Of course I have second guessed this as I usually second guess everything I do.

There is a quilted cat on the roof of this house. Of course you are asking what cat????

I had to take the photo with a macro setting and without the flash so the cat would be visible in the photo. I am going to quilt a cat for every house, but think for most of them I will quilt them on the darker fabric so they are more visible. Right now I have 3 different cat silhouettes, but might need to draw a few more.

Almost half way!

I am nearly at the half way point with my house construction. Only 13 more houses to go.

It has been busy in our neighborhood, too, as the weather has been nice and construction has been going at a crazy pace. No peace and quiet here during the day.

It is over 70 degrees today. Hard to believe a week ago we were walking with hat and gloves and heavy coats.

Well now to take a break from making houses and sit outside, have some soda, and read a book.

Thanks for reading.
