Disappointed in auction results

Well the silent auction fundraiser ended last night. My "Hail to the Lion" quilt went for $135. My husband had the highest bid. 

I don't know how many times I have been disappointed by attempting to sell quilts. I have never been able to sell any of my quilts even though I have tried several times.  In this case I was not selling it, but the fact that it went for so little makes me wonder if it is even worth trying to sell my work. I have concluded that I live in a well off, but cheap area and original artwork especially fiber is not valued here. I thought the quilt would go for about $225. So now I wonder if it is even worth my effort to contribute to the auction in the future.  The supplies for the quilt cost about $35 and it took about 20 hours to make. I would rather just donate the $135. 

Well at least my husband won it and he did not have to pay very much. So basically he got the quilt and we donated $135. I suppose that's how I have to look at it. Still disappointed though.....

Time to move on and start a new project. I will recover from this disappointment just like all the others.

The silent auction begins tomorrow

My nittany lion quilt was displayed as one of a handful of items as a preview of the auction. The other items are things like a football signed by Penn State's football coach and tickets to a dinner and a show. I think my quilt looks very striking among the preview items. What do you think? We should take guesses as to how much money it will go for and whether my husband will win it!

Hail to the lion

I've made more progress on the lion. Now I am working on figuring out what background fabric to use. A friend suggested using white, but I think it looks better with dark dark blue. I have some good pieces, but they are too small. So trying to find something that is big enough in my stash has been a bit of a problem. 

This is the best one so far. What do you think? The size will be 18 inches by 18 inches.

Progress on the lion

The lion is moving along. I think it is pretty much done except for some tweaking. The white parts that butt against the white Teflon sheet cannot be seen. When I make the quilt the background will be a dark blue. The blue tape is just for holding this to my design wall.

The next adventure.."We are..."

 I started to make the Nittany Lion quilt to be donated to the local State College Y as a fund raiser. It will be 18 inches by 18 in and will be raffled off in March.

So far I have drawn out the pattern and picked fabrics.

The pattern for the lion

I am going to do this as a monochromatic quilt in blues. Penn States colors are blue and white. I have picked out mainly Stonehenge fabrics.

My Aerogarden that I started 2 weeks ago is finally taking off. I have lettuces and herbs (basil, dill, and thyme) growing. I think we will have some lettuce before long. Have you ever grown and indoor garden?

My canal house quilt is on its way back from Quilts=Art=Quilts and I should receive it today. Can't wait to see it again and hang it back up.Thanks for reading.
