I did finally do some French knot stitching. I was waiting a couple of weeks for more embroidery floss to arrive. Nothing is fast these days. I have about half of the streetcar piece done. Also I’m finding it a little bit hard to get motivated to work on it. I go full out on pieces and then burn out a little and find it hard to sustain my effort. Am I the only one with this problem?
The knots are different sizes made from 6 strands, 3 strands, and 2 strands. If you zoom in you can see that. I love the way the knots cause some shadows.
Yes, I've experience that slump too, often when I come to the realization of just how much more work needs to be done, and none of it quickly. Creating becomes a slog until suddenly you're on the other side, on the home stretch and some of that initial energy returns. Hope you find that as well.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, those french knots are looking good. I'd wondered why you just didn't splatter paint all the areas needling "snow" but you are right - those knots do create some shadows and more authenticity to the flakes, although I don't think it would have been effective to use them exclusively.
I concur with Idaho Beauty. I too am facing lots of embroidery on a project, and will use your wonderful results to inspire me to stick with it. I love this piece as it reminds me of waiting for the trolley, bundled up in my good winter coat and leggings, to visit my granny.
ReplyDeleteGoing to be hard to know when to stop with the Fknots. It is looking great, keep going.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, I hadn't seen this piece since you were making many drawings. It really looks great. I love the effect of the snow with your different sizes of French Knots! I'm usually good at starting pieces but if for some reason they stall, then I can be a while before I want to get back to it. Often it's near the end when the making was fun but now it's just a matter of slogging through to the end. Good luck - you have a truly beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteThe knots add a wonderful texture to the piece -- it's beautiful!
