It was a busy week in the sewing room as I began working on the last 2 buildings on the Boston quilt. After struggling with the drawing details for several days, I settled on a sketch and began working out what exact fabrics to use. The sketch was in my last blog. The process of picking the fabrics for the windows and trim usually takes me a few days. I did talk to myself a lot while working that out. Maybe I should have put some music on to relax myself. Although I find talking to myself helps relax me as well. It also helps me talk out problems with myself. I'm a good listener!
Do you talk to yourself? Does it help?
So with all that talking and problem solving this is all I got done. The rest of this brownstone should go fairly smoothly. At least that's the dialogue I had this morning with myself.
I hope to complete this building by Monday. We'll see!!! That fabric that I'm using for the brownstone's large windows is what I call a magic fabric. I've used both the front and back of it elsewhere in the quilt. I love the blues and purples in it. It has been great for the windows in this quilt.

Thanks for reading.

It wasn't until I spent extended time in a hotel room with a friend that I became aware of how much I talk to myself out loud - or should I say at the computer screen or parts of a meal I'm cooking, etc. Not sure how much I actually do it in the studio but I'm sure it happens! I've found listening to a Laid Back Jazz station while working in the studio immediately relaxes me and helps with the flow. Sometimes a classical music station will do the same. I'm really impressed with how you managed to make that building in the upper left really look curved/rounded. I too love "magic" fabric!
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed your post last week, I didn't realize your piece was so LARGE. I'd be so tired of it by this stage, glad you are still excited about moving forward. Yes, I started talking to myself in the pandemic, because of mask? Maybe but also, if I didn't I talk to myself my unused voice would just be a croak. note - Somehow I can't identify myself in the usual boxes. Laceflower
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, so far your piece is really amazing! Yup, I talk to myself....more and more it would seem. Probably has to do with working from home alone for the last two years. As long as I'm kind to myself, I think that it's ok :-)
