I made a Grandma’s Fan Quilt years ago for my DD. She wanted it made out of blues and she picked out the fabrics. I was cleaning out my closet and found the book and the rotary cutting templates stuffed into the back of the closet. Since I don’t plan on making a second quilt I thought I would give them away. Here is the pattern book called “Fan*tastic.” Apparently the TV show “Quilting from the Heartland” must have done a show or series on this pattern. None of my TV stations have ever carried this show. Currently I am not able to get any quilt show. This saddens me since I used to walk on the treadmill while watching “Simply Quilts.” I would learn something and get inspired while getting my exercise!
You can see that the thick pink laser cut templates already have “sandpaper squares” attached to them so they don’t slip while you cut the pieces. You will need a small rotary cutter to do the cutting accurately.
So I will send you the book and the templates if you are the winner. All you have to do is make a comment and I will randomly pick a name on my mom’s birthday which is February 2. It is also Groundhog Day. I forget if the groundhog is supposed to or not supposed to see his/her shadow. It is all nonsense since Punxsutawney Phil has only been correct less than 30% of the time. You could toss a coin and do better with your forecast for the rest of the winter!! On February 2 I will post the winner’s name and you can claim your prize once you send me your snail mail info.
Here are some photos of the fan quilt I made my DD. This was the only quilt I sent out to be machine quilted. It was just sitting around not getting finished so I figured paying someone to quilt it was better than having it just sitting in the closet as a UFO.
I don’t remember who quilted it, but they did a great job quilting feathers, fans in the white blocks, etc. I think the person was just starting out and did not charge very much to do it either. Unfortunately I won’t be giving away the quilt with the book. But if you were ever thinking about making this beautiful quilt here is the chance to win the pattern and templates for free. There are some great ideas for wall hanging size quilts in the book. There is even a stocking and a tree skirt pattern if you only want to do a small project.
Chris
I love your blue fan quilt. If you did not mention that it was quilted by a beginner, I would never have guessed. Thank you for the opportunity to win the tools to make the fan quilt.

WOW!!!! What a beautiful quilt. I work as a nurse, and one of my residents has a fan quilt that I have admired. Have been thinking about doing one of my own.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, and it looks like the templates worked a treat! I have Shar Jorgensen's templates for a Double Wedding Ring quilt, but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I would love to give your templates a try, but we'll have to see if I win or not. :)
ReplyDeleteI've always loved fan quilts, so count me in, please!

Your daughter's quilt reminds me of some of the quilts that my grandmother used to make. I always wonder how much she would of appreciated all the time saving items and tricks that people have come up with to make quilting such an easy task. No cardboard templates, rotary cutters and the such. Please consider my name for your draw. Thanks Lesauri
ReplyDeleteI love that fan quilt Chris. You ar such an accomplished person. Blue is my favourite colour.
ReplyDeleteBurtine
Lovely fan quilt. I made a paper-pieced NY Beauty and I bet those templates would come in handy on the curves.

Have always wanted to make one - but the acrylic templates make it easier. Please put my name in your give away. How sweet of you to "share". Thanks, Beth in Birmingham, AL

ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to be in the draw for the book and templates.
Your blue quilt is even better than the one pictured on the book! Fabulous!! My kids are into the whole Asian thing so I enjoyed looking at other quilts on your site as well.
ReplyDeleteOoooh! How pretty! I think I'd be making many of them. I love blue and white quilts. Too bad you don't know who quilted it, she did a lovely job. Your daughter did great too in selecting the fabrics. I loved looking at the beautiful quilts on your blog. You are an amazing quilter and artist. I am especially drawn to the one at the top of your blog page. Just lovely!

After my mother died, I went through her stash and found she had made a quilt in this pattern. I had no idea she had done this and never did find a pattern or instructions. She was always quilting with her women's club/groups after we had all left home. I think your colors and quilt is beautiful and want to thank you for sharing with us. You are certainly a talented quilter.
ReplyDeleteChris, I am so impressed! I wish more gals felt the need to complete their UFOs. There is so much potential folded up in closets. Thank you for sharing that you had help finishing it. Alot of us need to hear that giving up some control is okay. A finished item that is a little different is so much better than an unrealized dream. You took a chance and it came out FABULOUS! I bet DD adores it!
ReplyDeleteI love this fan quilt...I'm partial to blues anyway, but this one is just SO pretty. I would love to win the templates, but if not, I will still make a fan quilt one day using your colors. The quilting is wonderful as well! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove your fan quilt. Blue is my favorite color. Please enter me in your drawing. Thanks!
