First try at orange highlights

I have just rough cut a bunch of orange pieces of fabric to see where I might want orange windows and highlights to be. I don't want too many or too few. Also some of the orange windows near the bottom might be a too bright of an orange. Things to work out. I also will be doing some hand stitching with orange.

At least I did something this week. It was a crazy week finishing up the class I was teaching and dealing with that.

At least this part of the design stage should not take that long. I tried to stick to the smaller windows. I think if I made one of the large windows in orange it might look weird.

Well it's time to let this sit and come back to it later.

The students in my class were still having a bit of trouble remembering how I create my applique pieces. I use both Totally stable and lite steam a seam 2. I decided to try to make some videos for them. They were too large to put in an email so I had to upload them to YouTube. Here they are if you want to watch them. I had to make them by myself so they are not perfect. I had my iPad propped up on 2 shoe boxes.  I broke them up into 5 short segments.

  1. Wow - brave you for creating those youtube videos. And I think they look quite good. Can't believe you shot them with your ipad! As for your windows, it really is the Goldilocks method - not too many but not too few. Getting the balance right will come as you do what you are doing - add some, walk away, check later. Good luck!

  5. As well as working on creating a balance between too many and too few, might it be an idea to also look at perspective in your windows? The ones in the central sky scrapers could be only pin dots against the closer complete squares. Otherwise I can only look at the piece and the work involved with awe.
